HARDWARE VALIDATION & MECHATRONIC ENGINEER

The Hardware Validation & Mechatronic Engineer, as a key member of the HW Team, bridges the gap between electronics design, mechanical integration, and mass production. This role follows the full product lifecycle with a strong focus on hardware validation, mechanical packaging, manufacturing interface, and quality maintenance.

Main Responsibilities

  • HW & Mechanical Validation: Define and execute comprehensive validation plans (functional, thermal, reliability, and pre-compliance) to ensure the product meets all technical and mechanical specifications.
  • Mechatronic Design: Perform schematics design and PCB layout, while also designing mechanical components and enclosures (2D/3D modeling), ensuring perfect integration between the electronic board and its housing.
  • Production & Factory Interface: Act as the primary technical point of contact for external EMS and mechanical suppliers, managing product ramp-up and monitoring production quality.
  • Test-Bench Development: Specify and design automated test benches, including mechanical fixtures and jigs for volume production, optimizing test coverage and cycle times.
  • HW Design & BOM Management: Manage the full Bill of Materials (BOM) for both electronic and mechanical parts, ensuring cost optimization, component scouting, and second-sourcing.
  • RMA & Failure Analysis: Lead the Returned Material Analysis (RMA) process, performing hands-on repairs and deep-dive root cause analysis on field failures (both electrical and mechanical).
  • Certification Support: Support external labs during product certification (CE, FCC, IP rating, etc.), ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations.

Qualifications and Experiences

  • University Master’s Degree in Electronic, Mechatronic, or Mechanical Engineering.
  • 5+ years of proven experience in hardware validation, testing, or industrialization.
  • Electronic Design Skills: Proficiency in circuit design (analog, digital, microcontrollers) and Altium Designer (or similar).
  • Mechanical Design Skills: Solid experience in 3D CAD modeling (e.g., SolidWorks, FreeCAD, or similar) for enclosure design and mechanical assemblies.
  • Testing & Instrumentation: Expert use of laboratory equipment (oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, climatic chambers) and tools for mechanical prototyping.
  • Industrialization Knowledge: Deep understanding of DFM/DFT for electronics and knowledge of mechanical manufacturing processes (injection molding, CNC, sheet metal).
  • Analysis Methods: Experience with DFMEA, MTBF, and tolerance analysis (mechanical and electrical).
  • Languages: Proficient in English (written and spoken) and Italian.
  • Knowledge of firmware programming (C/C++) or Python is a strong plus.

Required Soft Skills

  • Multidisciplinary Mindset: Ability to switch fluidly between electronic troubleshooting and mechanical design issues.
  • Problem-Solving & Hands-on Mentality: Strong attitude towards “fixing” complex issues and performing hardware/mechanical rework.
  • Operational Flexibility: Ability to prioritize activities between urgent production support (RMA/Factory) and long-term R&D tasks.
  • Effective Communication: Able to work cross-functionally and manage relationships with international electronic and mechanical suppliers.
