With production and commercial bases in Asia as well as Europe and the Americas, MinebeaMitsumi is highly aware of its environmental footprint and committed to contributing to the mitigation of climate change and global warming.
An ambitious goal has been set: achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 by abandoning fossil fuels whenever possible and promoting the use of renewable energy in offices and manufacturing plants. That’s why our Group is working on the installation and operation of solar power generation facilities at various sites, starting from large Asian bases.
Thai Operations accounts for more than 20% of global MinebeaMitsumi production, with approximately 30,000 employees in 10 sites handling a wide range of products such as bearings, motors, and sensors. Thai Operations has already installed a solar power generation facility with a total capacity of 16.5 MW, but its potential for expansion appeared to be limited to stand the expected growth of operations.
Therefore, a few months ago MinebeaMitsumi announced the decision to build a solar power plant with a total capacity of approximately 150 MW in Thailand. This will enable the Group to procure electricity equivalent to 12.5% of its total electricity consumption from renewable energy sources, reducing CO2 emissions by approximately 95,000 tons/year. Furthermore, by utilizing the energy storage facilities, this power plant will cover more than 50% of the total power used by MinebeaMitsumi’s Thai Operations. The plant will be constructed and operated through a joint venture agreement with Super Energy Corporation PLC.
Another significant project is being carried on in Cambodia, where a solar power plant is scheduled to operate by 2026 with a capacity of about 50 MW. The project is located in Krakor District, Pursat Province, and includes a collaboration with government-certified electric power company SchneiTec. The goal is to have all MinebeaMitsumi’s Cambodian plants using 100% renewable energy sourced from electricity generated in-house.
Considering investments in Thailand, Cambodia, and the Philippines, where a solar power facility is operating at Cebu plant, current MinebeaMitsumi’s own solar power generation capacity is of approximately 228 MW. But this is just the beginning: we will continue to further expand the use of renewable energy and contribute a sustainable society, as our corporate philosophy states!
