Along the highways that run between Prague and Germany and Prague and Austria, several parking areas are dedicated to trucks. These bays are especially sought by truck drivers to break their journey, as resting is a vital element for safety and -moreover- a legal obligation for professional drivers.
Challenges
Truck drivers often struggle to find a resting area when they need it: if the designated parking area is full, drivers continue their journey until they find an available one, extending driving hours and increasing the risks of accidents due to tiredness. As an alternative they are forced to park in areas not designated for truck parking, creating a potential safety risk for other motorway users.
Our solution
Czech engineering company SPEL offered an integrated Smart Parking solution based on our technology. Along the main highways, about 650 parking spots for trucks have been equipped with our Smart Parking Sensors to detect occupancy.
Connected to a wireless mesh network, sensors collect data about parking spaces and elaborate them through an exclusive parking management software developed by SPEL, to offer truck drivers the opportunity to check parking availability in real time and decide where they should make a stop.
Results
Thanks to this Smart Parking solution, SPEL is supporting the logistics sector, improving driving and parking experience in highways and ensuring the highest safety standards for all highways users. The robust case of the below ground parking sensor has proven to perform well for truck parkings, withstanding the considerable weight of heavy vehicles.
