The fully reimagined and modernized soccer Grand Stadium in Tangier was selected to host the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
Challenges
Lamalif Group, our Moroccan partner in charge of transforming the stadium’s lighting, had to go beyond expectations and beyond simply lighting a stadium: it had to showcase Morocco’s modernization, efficiency and innovation through the new lighting installation.
Our solution
About 580 Smart Lighting Zhaga Nodes were installed right outside the stadium of Tangier, each controlling two LED streetlights through DALi bus, for a total of 1,160 outdoor LED luminaires. Each streetlight is remotely monitored via the Central Management Software (CMS); lights are automatically switched on/off and dimmed according to pre-set patterns. Schedules are dynamically adjusted according to special events happening at the stadium, such as increasing the lighting effects of the AFCON opening ceremony or enabling smooth crowd control at the end of matches.
The CMS provides accurate reporting on the operating conditions of the Smart Lighting network, including detailed energy consumption statistics and real-time alerts in case of failures or anomalies for single or grouped streetlights.
Results
At Tangier Grand Stadium, Lamalif Group deployed a comprehensive solution combining the installation of sports lighting, façade lighting and intelligent outdoor lighting management. Acting behind the scenes, Paradox Engineering’s engineers worked hand in hand with Lamalif’s team to set up a programmable lighting system to remotely manage and control the lights outside the stadium more efficiently.
The project was designed to meet international standards while offering an immersive experience for fans and optimizing the site’s operation.
