Recognized as one of the top 20 research universities worldwide, the University of California San Diego serves over 43 thousand students. Its main campus is located near the Pacific Ocean on approximately 1,200 acres of coastal woodland in La Jolla, California.
Challenges
Despite offering different parking facilities for students, staff and visitors, finding a vacant parking space at University of California in San Diego can be tricky. Most drivers use a trial-and-error method, and those arriving during peak hours often experience congestion, loss of time and frustration when searching for parking.
To help parkers find available parking, the University partnered with ITS and traffic solutions provider Swarco to develop a Smart Parking solution. Main goal was to ease the parking search process and offer drivers the opportunity to choose the most convenient parking location.
Our solution
About 230 parking spaces were equipped with Smart Parking Sensors, integrating them with an in-door parking guidance technology by Peter Fritz Systems to offer real-time parking availability information and possible alternatives.
Results
A comprehensive parking information platform is now accessible to students, employees and guests, who benefit from a burden-free parking process. The driver experience is vastly improved and the Campus makes a perfect first impression on its visitors.
